100 Years Old and Still Going Strong – Footscray Paint Spot

After four generations and 100 years, the paint trade has not lost its gloss for the Dobinson family. Chris Dobinson (Footscray) and Anthony Dobinson (Sunshine) currently operate the business that was started by their great Grandfather Chris Dobinson, a painter, in 1913.

From humble beginnings in a small shop in Footscray the Dobinson name has over the years become synonymous with the paint industry in the Western Suburbs

“Chris ran the business until the end of World War Two from 27 Paisley St, Footscray,” explained Anthony “ but he also had a keen interest in the paint industry taking on the role of Vice President of the Master Painters (and Signwriters’) Association in 1935.”

A century later, Dobinson’s remains one of the West’s longest operating family enterprises. In 1973 Paint Spot was established and as the business expanded it outgrew the Paisley St shop and in 1988 moved to its current location in Buckley Street, Footscray. With the suburban expansion throughout the west, the Dobinson’s secured their second store in McIntyre Rd, Sunshine.
