The BRW Fast 100 list ranks Australia’s fastest growing, public and private, small and medium businesses.

The quality of the BRW Fast 100 2011 was as high as ever, as businesses and entrepreneurs from all of

Australia’s major vertical industries presented the solid business practices required to deliver growth in a downturn.

Western Institute of Technology is a private provider of vocational education and training (VET) to international and domestic students in Melbourne, Australia

Its founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mr.Intaj Khan came to Australia on a student visa in 1998 to study Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Electronics and Communications )in Central Queensland University, Queensland which he graduated from in 2001. From there he went on to work in the Telecommunications sector until 2006.

In 2007, Intaj entered in the education sector and established a training college; Western Institute of Technology.

WIT became a Registered Training Organisation in 2008 and to this day has focuses strongly on providing quality education and training to both local and international students.

WIT’s growing success has been a result of its founder’s ability to introduce strong strategies especially focused on the building and construction industry. These strategies which target an industry where there are many skills shortages in Australia have made WIT a popular choice for students due to the unique courses on offer.

In 2009, WIT was the first private college in Victoria to offer Certificate III in Painting and Decorating to international students and since then, they have been at the forefront of the delivery of high quality building and construction courses. WIT has been affiliated with Industry Associations and members.

This strategy of focusing on the building and construction industry has meant that WIT has kept growing despite a downturn in the economy and has recently added Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) to its product basket.

This continued growth and success has enabled WIT to achieve a high-position on the notorious BRW Fast 100 list for 2011 which is an overwhelming achievement and one which Mr Intaj Khan and his colleagues intend to surpass in 2012.

Remember, it is really important that redundancy and IPT contribution payments to Incolink are up-to-date as your employee’s insurance cover ceases if there are gaps in contributions.

If you’re making Income Protection & Trauma (IPT) contribution payments to Incolink, your employees will be covered under one of the best Income Protection and Trauma Benefit Programs in the industry. Where your EBA requires you to make IPT contribution payments to another agent, those workers have no cover under Incolink’s IPT Benefits Program – we therefore invite you to compare the Programs to ensure your employees are receiving the best cover.

The necessity for cleaner work is becoming more and more important. On the one hand because it gives the customer a significantly better impression in terms of quality and on the other because it makes a decisive contribution to healthier work. In order to meet the different demands of the tradesman, Festool offers a large selection of mobile dust extractors which will be further enhanced from August with a special application extractor for hazardous dust types, as well as for continuous use in industry.

Nothing is already so good that it can’t get any better

More and more people are suffering from asthma and cancer in the nasal mucosa, throat, bronchi and the lungs. For tradesmen this can be a result of working without dust extraction. As the saying goes - “Where there is work, there is also chippings and shavings” That’s why for many years Festool has been offering extraction systems that are specially coordinated for all tools that generate chippings and dust. Using the competence acquired here the system provider is expanding its range of extractors in order to further improve the situation regarding health and cleanliness in the workplace.

AVAILABLE FROM 1ST AUGUST

All-rounder for the workshop – the new CLEANTEX CT 48

The new all-rounder with its 48 litre capacity is predominantly suited to stationary applications with particularly large quantities of dust. Featuring a compact high-performance turbine and also a compact design, it guarantees good handling and optimal extraction results.

The use of the space-saving integrated flat filter is also clever and ensures full use of the container volume thus extending the replacement intervals of the filter bags.

At the same time, the special SELFCLEAN woven filter bags provide constantly high suction power thanks to their self-clean function and tear-resistant quality. It moves easily over steps and staircases with its extra-large wheels and handle. The CT 48 works with a continuously variable suction power adjustment and automatic electronic switch-on/shut-off. With the CT 48 Festool has combined the predecessors CT 44 and CT 55 into one. With a compressed air module, an additional socket and a power box, the extractor can be individually developed depending on the application and also combined with the Toolcenter TC 3000/2, Workcenter, CT ASA and the SYSTAINER. The CT 48 can also be optimally equipped with AUTOCLEAN technology, whereby the filter is automatically cleaned in infinitely variable intervals depending on the volume of dust. The suction power thus remains constantly high, even for large quantities of dust.

Hazard detected, hazard averted – with the new special application extractor the CTH 48 is for harmful dust types

Harmful dust no longer stands a chance with the new CTH 48. Whether it’s asbestos, mould, lead or nickel: The special application dust extractor reliably protects against carcinogenic and pathogenic dust types and complies with the strictest regulations for dust class H and the additional requirements for asbestos. With a degree of filtration of 99.995% the outlet air is cleaned almost completely, whereby even asbestos abatement and wood-working with harmful wood impregnations no longer pose a danger to health. The double-layered safety filter bag which seals the built-up dust tightly and securely ensures safe disposal. Similar to the CT 48 series, the H extractors are equipped with infinitely variable suction power adjustment, an anti-static function, high-performance turbine and a minimal flat filter.

Prepared for hard continuous application – with the new special application extractor CT 48 LE EC

The redundancy fund Incolink is Victoria’s good corporate citizen of the year.

Incolink was presented with the award for Community and Public Service by a Good Corporate Citizen by the Victoria Day Council on July 1, Victoria’s 160th birthday, the anniversary of its independence from NSW.

Accepting the award for Incolink was the Manager of Member Services Tim Corney with members of the team, Emma Green- Projects Coordinator and Laura Kaczkowski- Marketing and Communications Executive.

This year there were other worthy winners and Incolink took its place on the podium beside Victorian of the Year, Father Bob Macguire and Young Victorian of the Year, Amit Menghani.

Other awards included the Award for Community and Public Service by a Victorian Organisation going to the Country Women’s Association and the Chairman’s Perpetual Award which was accepted on behalf of the late Incolink Chairman, David Murden.

As a “Corporate Citizen”, Incolink is a little unusual – it is a partnership of more than 20 years between employers and unions in the Victorian building and construction industry

The award recognises Incolink’s support for these workers – both financially and through its health and wellbeing programs – as well as Incolink’s role in helping the wider community through its many philanthropic programs.

Incolink’s primary role is providing financial security to building and construction workers through the peaks and troughs of the building cycle – when workers are between jobs, or in periods of unemployment.

But Incolink, through careful management of these funds, provides much more.

Incolink’s health and wellbeing programs for building and construction workers include:

• A campaign to promote and subsidise prostate checks.

• A partnership with VicWork to provide health checks on the job.

• Support for separated fathers.

• Counselling and support on financial concerns, relationships issues, and problems like alcohol, drugs and gambling

• Support for young apprentices in country Victoria – a particularly high-risk group.

• And more.

Incolink’s programs are the social glue that supports the workers who create this State’s buildings and infrastructure. That’s 200,000 Victorian workers and their immediate family.

Incolink’s late chairman David Muirden had a goal that working in the building and construction industry the career of first choice for young people and their parents.

Incolink’s manager of member services, Tim Corney, told the Victoria Day presentation: “We hope through our health and wellbeing programs that we are benefiting not just this industry – but also the wider Victorian community.”

Incolink Board member Brian Welch, executive director of the Master Builders Association of Victoria, was also present to receive the perpetual trophy sponsored by VECCI.

In addition to its financial role and health programs, Incolink provides members with a range of benefits:

• 24 hour, 7 day accident and illness insurance cover • assistance with finding new employment (an average 8 positions/week, with a 99% success rate) • careers counselling and training • subsidies to attend training programs

But its philanthropic programs go beyond the fund’s immediate members and their families. Incolink has developed a suite of programs that address the issues of young apprentices, and works closely with TAFEs to deliver support to approximately 10,000 apprentices each year with preventative education, one-on-one support, counselling and referral services.

And Incolink supports other community organisations

• providing grants and scholarships to community organisation and individuals

• supporting the work and education training unit, The Island

• providing funding to improve education and employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians

• supporting Kids Under Cover, to provide housing for young people who are at risk of becoming homeless.

• giving grants to the Mater Medical Research Institute for many years to support them find a cure for prostate cancer – one of the biggest killers of men in Victoria.

• an annual grant to Suicide Prevention Australia.

The goal of Incolink’s philanthropic work is simple: it aligns with the work they do to promote the health and wellbeing of the whole Victorian community.

The Board, Staff and members of Master Painters Association of Victoria, Congratulate Incolink on their award for Community and Public Service .

————————————————————————————

Victoria Day awards

Previous winners of Award for Community and Public Service by a Good Corporate Citizen include: • Bunnings • Bendigo Bank • Toyota • RACV • Ritchies • MECU Ltd

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has authorised the Australian Paint Manufacturers’ Federation (APMF) application to conduct a 12 month waste paint collection and treatment trial in Victoria. The authorisation has been granted from 1 July 2011 until 1 December 2012. Initially, the APMF had planned to implement the trial from 1 July 2011.

The participating companies (DuluxGroup, Haymes Paints, PPG and Wattyl) have now agreed that the implementation of the waste paint collection and treatment trial be delayed until 1 November 2011.

The companies have sought extra time to complete IT work to allow for the levy to be invoiced and collected in accordance with the ACCC authorisation.

Additional time will also be used to educate their customers on the importance of the planned trial.

The APMF and participating companies remain committed to the trial and reducing the environmental harm caused by the improper disposal of waste paint in Victoria. The trial is also likely to assist in the development of a national waste paint collection and treatment scheme.

The Master Painters Association of Victoria will keep our members informed as more details come available.
